How This Calculator Works

This commercial HVAC calculator estimates the cooling load for office spaces based on floor area, occupancy, glass exposure and equipment heat load.

Cooling Load Calculation

The calculator considers multiple heat sources in office buildings:

  • Area cooling load
  • Employee heat load
  • Glass solar heat gain
  • Computer equipment heat
Formula Used

Area Load = Area × 60 BTU
People Load = Employees × 600 BTU
Glass Load = Glass Area × 150 BTU
Equipment Load = Computers × 400 BTU

Total Cooling Load = Sum of all loads

Required TR = Total BTU ÷ 12,000

Example

Office Area = 2000 sq.ft
Employees = 20
Glass Area = 200 sq.ft
Computers = 20

Estimated Cooling Load ≈ 16–20 TR depending on heat gain.
