Professional HVAC Load Calculator (BTU & Ton)

How This HVAC Load Calculator Works

This professional HVAC load calculator estimates the cooling load required for a room or office based on room area, ceiling height, glass exposure, building orientation and city climate conditions.

Cooling Load Factors

  • Room area heat load
  • Ceiling height adjustment
  • Glass solar heat gain
  • Building direction heat exposure
  • City climate factor
Calculation Method

Base Cooling Load = Area × 25 BTU

Height Adjustment = Ceiling Height ÷ 10

Glass Heat Load = Glass Area × 60 BTU

Final Cooling Load = (Base Load × Height Factor + Glass Load) × Direction Factor × City Climate Factor

Required AC Size (Ton) = Cooling Load ÷ 12,000

Example

Room Area = 300 sq.ft
Ceiling Height = 10 ft
Glass Area = 40 sq.ft

Estimated cooling load ≈ 9,000 – 12,000 BTU depending on conditions.

This calculator helps homeowners, HVAC engineers and consultants estimate AC tonnage for proper system sizing.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is HVAC load calculation?

HVAC load calculation determines required cooling capacity in BTU or ton based on room size and heat load.

2. How many BTU per square foot?

Typically 20–30 BTU per square foot is used for basic cooling calculation.

3. Why is proper AC sizing important?

Oversized or undersized AC reduces efficiency and increases electricity cost.

4. Is this calculator accurate?

This tool provides an estimated load. Professional site survey is recommended for final sizing.
